Hi Everybody!! We had a great day yesterday and are off to a great start today! Yesterday, we slept in and finally got up and went and spent the day at the Newseum. The Newseum is a museum that is dedicated to the world of news. We got to try being newscasters and had a lot of fun trying that out!! We also got to see one of the actual antennas that was on top of the World Trade Center. We saw a lot of cool stuff here and had a really fun experience at the Newseum. Today, we had to wake up at four o’clock this morning and get ready for our cab which picked us up at the hotel at five thirty. Our flight wasn’t until eight o’clock, but the airport was an hour away, so we had to leave super early!! I’m really tired right now and have to get on our next plane. So, that’s all for now!!!

Hi guys! It’s Maddie. Today we went to the Newseum which is a museum of news. While at the Newseum, which had the best view of the Capitol In the whole district, my sister, my dad, and I got to be news reporters. My sister and I reported on The White House while my dad reported on baseball. We also got to see a truck that was in a really bad car accident and when it crashed the person’s head went through the windshield. On another car that we saw the windshield was all blown out and had been bombed. After that we saw an actual antenna that had been on one of the World Trade Centers during 9\11. It was interesting because it was all rusted and bent from when the terrorists crashed into the World Trade Centers.

Hi, this is Maddie.
Today we went to the Bureau of Engraving and Printing (the BEP), the Holocaust Memorial Museum, and to Arlington National Cemetery. I like the BEP the best because I got to see real money in the process of being made. The BEP has several huge printing presses that print the money. On one of the printing presses, there was an ink well that had a metal stick that stirred the ink to keep it from drying before it was pressed onto the paper. The Holocaust Museum was really neat. We saw parts of the walls from some of the concentration camps and how the Jewish people were treated. It was sad to see how the Nazis treated the Jewish people. After the Holocaust Museum, we took the Metro to Arlington National Cemetery. At the Cemetery we saw John F. Kennedy’s grave were a flame burns all of the time. Next we saw the Arlington House, the former home of Robert E. Lee. Finally, we say the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and the changing of the guards. Did you know that John F. Kennedy’s son, who is buried next to him, lived only two days? Lot’s of people who died in the Civil War are buried in Arlington National Cemetery.
For dinner we met up with some friends that we had not seen for three years. It was really good to see them.
We have only one full day left in DC and then we travel home on Wednesday.

Hey Guys!!! We had another awesome day today!! We started out our day with a tour of the Bureau of Engraving and Printing. It was really cool to see where all of our money is made!! Did you know that they print about $696,000,000 per day??!! Wow!! After that exciting adventure, we headed over to the Holocaust Memorial Museum and took a tour that walked us through what happened back then. They had lots of incredible pictures and displays. After this museum, we boarded the Metro and headed out to Arlington National Cemetery and the Iwo Jima Memorial. We walked around in Arlington and saw JFK’s grave. We also saw the tomb of the Unknown Soldier and its changing of the guard. This was all really neat to see. For dinner we met some old friends from Tampa that had recently moved to Fredrick, MD. We hadn’t seen them for a long time, so it was really fun to get together and reconnect. Today was a great day, and tomorrow we plan to go to the National Cathedral and the Newseum. Well, that’s all for now!!

Hi, this is Maddie. Today we spent the day with my aunt Kathy and my two cousins. We went to the Museum of Air and Space and the National Portrait Museum. I liked the Portrait Museum the best because we got to see the official portraits of all the presidents, including George Washington. At the Air and Space Museum we saw the Lunar Lander and a replica of Skylab, where three astronauts lived for up to 84 days. We saw where they slept, worked, ate, and their shower and bathroom. It looked really small to live in for that long. The Lunar Lander was really cool. We saw the ladder the astronauts came down to walk on the moon. Also, we saw a replica of the base part of the Lunar Lander that is still on the moon. Another a great part of today was hanging with my cousins and pushing them in their stroller. They are fun to be with. We had a fun day, but I am tired and ready for bed. Good night!!

We had another great day today. Our cousins were still in town and we had a lot of fun with them. We pushed their stroller around on the Mall and in the Museum of Air and Space and at the National Portrait Gallery. We took a tour of the National Air and Space Museum and it was really cool. Our docent (the guy who gave us a private tour) was named Bob. He was really nice. He showed us the Lunar Lander with a replica of the base unit and the capsule that carried the astronauts. It looked totally claustrophobic. I don’t think I am cut out to be an astronaut. We also saw a replica of Skylab. We say the chamber that the astronauts lived in for 84 days. We say the exercise area for the astronauts’ use as their muscles atrophied in space since they did not have to use them to move around. After that we saw World War II airplanes. They were pretty cool, and each successful mission was painted on the side of the airplanes. One plane we say flew over 200 missions. How scary!! We also unmanned aircraft that are in use in the war in Iraq and Afghanistan.
We have a full day tomorrow, with Arlington and the Bureau of Engraving and Printing. Talk to you tomorrow. Have a good day in school.

Hi Everyone!! Today was another exciting day here in Washington D.C. Our cousins came into town from Pennsylvania and spent the day with us-it was really fun!! We visited the American Museum of Natural History where we saw an Imax movie on the Deep Sea which was awesome!! And also saw the Hope Diamond which was also very cool!! After the Museum, we headed over to this cute little café for lunch. After lunch we took the Metro (like a subway) over to the National Zoo which was also very fun because of all the animals we got to see. We saw giant pandas, monkeys (gorillas, orangutans, etc.), and elephants. For dinner, we had awesome pizza at a quaint little pizzeria. Overall today was fun filled and very exciting!!

Hey Everyone!!! We had another great day today!! We started our day off bright and early with a tour of the White House. We learned that it has a bowling lane, its own dentist’s office, 16 bedrooms and 15 bathrooms (wow!). We also saw many of the rooms that big dinners and important meetings have been held. After having a blast at the White House, we headed over to the National Archives where all the records are kept for all three branches of government. They also have a real copy of the Declaration of Independence, Constitution, and the Bill of Rights. We got to see all of these and learned a lot about them. When we were done at the National Archives, we bolted over to the National American Indian Museum for lunch at their authentic food court. I had tacos, and chips and guacamole (big surprise I know!) and they were delicious!! After the American Indian Museum, we walked the mall and saw seven different monuments and memorials. We saw the Washington Monument, Vietnam Veterans Memorial, Korean Veterans Memorial, WWII Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, Thomas Jefferson Memorial, and the FD Roosevelt Memorial. We walked to all of these and after a while, I just couldn’t walk anymore!! My feet were killing me!! Anyway, I have to go to bed soon so I have to go get ready!

Hi! This is Maddie.
Today we went to the White House, The National Archives and 7 monuments/memorials. I liked the White House tour because we go to see where many of the Presidents have lived and some of the rooms where George W and Laura Bush have meetings and dinners. We saw the staircases leading to the Bush’s private residence and Mrs. Bush’s offices. We talked to a secret service agent who travels with President Bush……they went to Miami last week. I learned that the White House has its own Dentist office. The National Archives was cool because it holds the original copies of the Declaration of Independence, Bill of Rights and the United States Constitution. The DOI was almost totally faded because it had been exposed to sunlight for 25 years while hanging in a frame in the Library of Congress. The Constitution has never been exposed to sunlight and it was easy to read. After that we had an awesome lunch at the American Indian Museum. I had fry bread with honey and cinnamon…it was awesome!
With a full tummy we headed to see the sights on The Mall. The Mall is the strip of land between The Capitol Building and The Washington Monument. We visited the Washington Monument, the WWII Memorial, the Lincoln Memorial, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, the Korean War Veterans Memorial, the Jefferson Memorial and the FD Roosevelt Memorial. My favorite was the Lincoln Memorial because I finally got to see something that I had heard so much about. The Jefferson Memorial was cool because we had a great view of many of the sites in DC.
We went to dinner at a restaurant in Chinatown. The restaurant was called Matchbox and the best part of dinner was dessert…..a chocolate chip cookie ice cream sandwich with coffee ice cream….YUM!

Hi Everyone!! We had another great day today! We started out our day (bright and early) with a delicious breakfast from the hotel buffet (yum!!). Then we found our way all the way over to the Library of Congress where we got to see Thomas Jefferson’s old library. We also learned about the forming of the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and our Bill of Rights.
After this we booked it over to the Supreme Court just in time to hear a lecture telling about the history of the Supreme Court and how it works. Then, we walked over to Union Station to get some lunch. We had to scarf our lunch down because we had to make it to Senator Max Baucus’s office in time for our tour of the Capitol. After having tons of fun at the Capitol, we decided to check out the National Art Museum. We had a lot of fun seeing all the famous artists’ work. We saw Monet, Da Vinci, and lots of other memorable artists. After having a blast at the Art museum, we were on our way to go and have normal dinner with American food. We walked by a cute little Mexican restaurant and mom decided to be adventurous and try it out. We went in, got seated, and read the menu. This is what you spot first: Cow tongue tacos, Cactus Salad, and Squid enchiladas (yuck!!). I gave mom the evil eye for choosing this restaurant in the first place. I finally found chicken enchiladas and ate them without a problem. Then came the queso that Maddie ordered………
We have to get up bright and early tomorrow because we are touring the White House and have to be there at 9:00 a.m. We had lots of fun today and I hope we have as much fun tomorrow.

False alarm! We are going to the White House tomorrow.
Today was the best day of my life! Today we went to the Supreme Court, the National Art Gallery, the Library of Congress, and the Capitol building. The Supreme Court was the best out of all of them. We learned that each case is one hour long. Each side gets thirty minuets to make their case and they have to answer all of the justices’ questions. After twenty five minuets they can chose to stop and tell why the other side shouldn’t win. At the Capitol building they have beautiful paintings. They have a few paintings of Columbus that I got pictures of because I thought they went really well with Pedro’s Journal. The Library of
Congress was neat because it has Thomas Jefferson’s collection of books and some of them survived a fire. It also has the rough draft of the Declaration of Independence and an exhibit describing the making of the Declaration of Independence, the U.S. Constitution, and the Bill of Rights. The art museum was fun because it had the actual paintings by many famous painters. Anyway I have to go. Bye!

Hi everyone! It’s Maddie. If you didn’t already know I am in Washington DC. My route was Missoula, Montana Spokane, Washington Salt Lake City, Utah Chicago, Illinois Baltimore, Maryland and finally Washington DC. I am very exited to go to the White House tomorrow because I think it will be interesting to see where the president lives and the former presidents have lived. On this trip we will also be spending time with my Aunt, and two cousins. We will be visiting several other famous Washington DC sights on our adventure.

Wednesday 10/15
Hi Everyone!! This is Mackenzie. We have officially begun our big adventure! We left our house at eight o’clock this morning and drove a whopping three hours to Spokane, Washington. We then boarded a Southwest airlines plane and flew to Salt Lake City, Utah where we stopped but did not get off. Some people will get on here and some will get off, but we had to stay seated if we wanted to get all the way to Washington D.C. Finally, after about an hour of sitting on the ground waiting for all the new passengers to get on the plane and to get situated we took off headed towards Chicago/Midway airport, which will be our second stop. We will arrive In Washington D.C. at about eleven o’clock p.m. (yawn). Okay, that’s all for now! We have to shut off all of our electronics because we are about to land.
